Wednesday Meditations with Guest Teacher – Tina Rasmussen

March 24, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm PDT

Tina Rasmussen, Ph.D., learned to meditate at age 13. In 2003, after years of practice in Buddhist and non-dual traditions, she completed an intensive year-long solo retreat during which a profound opening to true nature occurred. In 2005, she attended a retreat with Burmese meditation master Ven. Pa Auk Sayadaw, during which Tina ordained as a nun, and became the first Western woman to complete the entire Samatha path and be authorized to teach. She has been studied by Yale Neuroscience Lab for research on the effects of meditation on consciousness and the brain. Tina is co-author of Practicing the Jhanas (Shambhala), and now teaches students worldwide.

Much research has shown that meditation is one of the very best ways to cultivate the brain states of self-awareness, calm and inner peace, lovingkindness, mindfulness, and happiness – as well as strengthen the immune system and nurture other health benefits.

Join Dr. Rick Hanson for a live-streamed weekly meditation, talk, and discussion. Dr. Hanson’s approach is Buddhist – though you certainly don’t need to be “Buddhist” to come and get value, nor do you need any prior experience with meditation. While the “home base” for this group is the Vipassana tradition, Zen and Tibetan approaches are accepted, respected, and encouraged.

These teachings are offered freely, at no charge. And if you like, you may wish to participate in the age-old tradition of generosity through making an offering yourself – called “dāna” – to support Rick and the Wednesday Meditations. Generosity itself is a beautiful practice that opens and gladdens the heart, relaxes the contraction of “self,” and ripples out into the world to touch many people – and perhaps, eventually, even oneself.
