Modern brain science is beginning to shed light on the underlying neuropsychological basis of deep experiences of present moment awareness, integrated wholeness of mind, and the sense of interdependent connection with nature and physical reality. Facilitated by Rick Hanson, Ph.D and three other teachers – Leslie Booker, Tara Mulay, and Peter Grossenbacher – this meditation retreat will explore the intersection of modern neuroscience and ancient Buddhist insights to relax the contracted sense of self and rest increasingly in resilient well-being at the front edge of now.
This 10-day mainly silent vipassana style retreat will include sitting and walking meditation, movement, guided practices and talks from Rick, opportunities to ask questions, and two small group meetings with a teacher. After laying a foundation of methods for steadying the mind, warming the heart, and abiding at ease, we’ll use Buddhist teachings informed by neuroscience to experience and stabilize a growing sense of what Rick calls Wholeness . . . Nowness . . . Allness . . . and Oneness.
Prerequisite: As this is a serious, experientially intense retreat, all participants must have previous participation in a 7+ day meditation retreat. Additionally, this retreat is not appropriate for those who are vulnerable to psychotic or dissociative experiences.
Cost: $450 + 9 nights lodging (see Shambhala website for options)
Scholarships: Ten scholarship seats will be available for this retreat. Please click here for more information and to apply. As scholarships are limited, please apply early.
Recordings: Rick’s talks, guided meditations, and perhaps additional teachings will be videotaped as quietly and discreetly as possible. The voices and images of retreat participants will not be included in the recordings, which will be edited into an online program that participants will receive at no charge in 2019. This program will be offered for sale, and given freely to anyone with financial need.
